Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is VoIP?

A: Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is the transmission of phone calls over data networks instead of using traditional telephone landlines or analog circuits.

Q: How does VoIP work?

A: With VoIP, voice traffic is converted into data packets and transmitted over a private data network and/or the public Internet. When you call a landline or cell phone number, the data packets are converted to a regular telephone signal before they reach the party you’re calling.

Q: What is the difference between a Hosted and On-premise phone system?

A: On-premise (on-site) phone systems reside in places such as computer equipment rooms or phone closets and Hosted (cloud) phone systems reside in the cloud or an off-site data center. While location is the biggest difference, there are many factors to consider before making your final choice.

Q: What is a SIP Trunk?

A: Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) Trunk is a service that lets you use a PBX over a VoIP network to make and receive calls.

Q: What are the advantages of SIP Trunks?

A: SIP Trunks are much cheaper than landlines or analog circuits that traditional business class phone systems use. They also maintain or exceed the level of call quality that businesses expect from their phone service while saving you money

Q: Is SIP the same thing as VoIP?

A: Although SIP and VoIP are sometimes used interchangeably, they are not the same thing. The term VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol. It is a broad term that covers any phone call made over a data network. The term encompasses a group of protocol technologies of which SIP is an example. In short, SIP is one of the specific protocols that enable VoIP.

Q: Can we use our existing phone system with SIP Trunks?

A: Most likely, yes. We offer devices called VoIP Gateways that convert SIP Trunks to analog lines and we connect them to your old PBX. You’ll be able to keep your existing numbers and programmed line buttons.

Q: Can we use our existing analog lines or PRI with a new phone system?

A: Yes, we have On-premise phone systems that use your existing landlines or analog circuits. This option eliminates the need to change phone carriers or break lengthy contracts.

Q: How much will a new phone system cost?

A: As you may be able to guess, the answer is it depends. We know that’s not very helpful for potential customers so here are 4 examples of factors we consider while building your quote in order for you to be an informed consumer.

  • Installation type
  • Number of locations
  • Difficulty of setup requirements
  • Quantity and mix of phone models

Similar to other professional services, we have numerous components to analyze before creating a quote for your business. We want you to be thrilled with your new business phone system and we have years of experience to do the job effectively and affordably.
